Dreamland
Dreamland is a long-term intervention in the urban space of Sofia. This contemporary mural is dedicated to tolerance between people. After a series of online workshops with children of different ethnic origins between the ages of 10 and 15 living in Bulgaria, we have gathered their dreams, shared ideas and open hearts to illustrate it all on a wall.
Period: September 23-30th, 2020
Location: 22nd School in Sofia, Tundzha str.
Mural size: 35 sq.m.
The meetings were hold in the presence of two professional facilitators and the illustrator Tochka, who worked with the group of young people in a creative process and guided them how to illustrate their dreams. The intention was to introduce and increase the sensitivity of the direct participants on the topics of discrimination, hate speech, xenophobia and racism in moderated conversations. During the process they have shared their dreams and aspirations, about what they want to achieve, what stands in their way and what would help them achieve them. For the participants, this is a chance to hear more not only about the dreams of others, but also to bring out their own and therefore set new goals, expand their horizons through the experience and opinion of others to gain the courage to achieve what they want. The artist TOCHKA collected information from the meetings both from the conversations and from the visual products created by the participants. The final result of the online workshops is the creation of the mural based on the shared dreams and values of the young participants, which would communicate a positive message to the public.
Project Dreamland is financed by Sofia Municipality, Program Europe 2020 by the Meeting Points Foundation in partnership with Visionary Foundation.
