Window of Knowledge

The mural “Window of Knowledge” by Bulgarian artist Svetlozar Yankov is a kind of romantic–poetic narrative inspired by the style of Gustav Klimt, who often referenced the sublime existence of the soul within the material world in his art. The work is part of the project “Cycle of Knowledge.”

The composition is built around a window frame—a symbol of knowledge—and at its center stands a delicate female figure—a symbol of beauty—positioned right on its threshold with a book in her hand, uniting the two symbolisms into a shared message about the beauty of knowledge. The light feminine figure contrasts against the darker shades of burgundy (a color associated with wealth, strength, and power), which metaphorically depict the presence of the material world while also creating visual depth.

The window in the painting corresponds to the terraces and windows of the nearby building, resonating with the environment and the inquisitive students living there.

The painting features warm, earthy, and gentle colors, with its patterns serving as the main color accent. The green leaves in the foreground also contribute to the depth of the image, creating a direct connection with the greenery around the building and the large tree crowns nearby. This gives the viewer the sensation of observing the mural through the trees, just as it will be seen in reality during the spring and summer months of the year.
